Chazen Museum of Art
Lectures

Events

Lectures, gallery talks, demonstrations, panel discussions, and symposia on various topics in the visual arts by members of the UW-Madison faculty and curators, visiting scholars and museum professionals, and artists, are regularly offered at the Chazen Museum of Art. Although many of these presentations are organized by the museum, others are sponsored by other campus entities such as the Department of Art History, the Department of Art, and Tandem Press. Unless otherwise noted, all lectures and demonstrations at the Chazen Museum of Art are free of charge and open to the general public.

Many presentations relate directly to a concurrent temporary exhibition. Presenters are invited to place the exhibited works of art into a historical or intellectual context, discuss related issues of connoisseurship, and/or shed light on the techniques used by the artist(s) whose works are displayed. Generally, an interdisciplinary approach guides the selection of the various presenters related to a specific exhibition. Other presentations relate to objects in or issues related to the museum's permanent collection or general issues of art and art appreciation. Finally, each year, usually under the auspices of the Department of Art and Tandem Press, contemporary artists speak about their own work.
