Events

Special social events launch new endeavors and celebrate museum landmarks. They offer rich opportunities for UW-Madison students and faculty and other members of the visiting public to interact with museum staff and board members, visiting scholars, artists, and their peers in an informal cultural setting.

These events include receptions, held in the museum's spacious Paige Court, to mark exhibition openings. These are frequently attended by the organizing curator(s) and/or exhibiting artists and are often preceded by an introductory gallery talk or lecture. Invitations are issued to all museum members, although everyone is welcome. Galas, generally designed as fundraising events, focus on a special theme related to an exhibition, a part of the collection, or a singular happening. Music, refreshments, and activities attract hundreds of paying guests and provide additional private support for exhibitions and educational programming. Special UW-Madison student events are organized throughout the year in conjunction with various university departments and programs to increase student awareness of the museum's collections and programs. Gallery Night, a downtown Madison event, held on a Friday evening in October and May each year, enables people to experience Madison's vibrant cultural theme with family and friends. The Chazen and the Museum Shop keep their doors open late into the evening, offering guided tours, music and refreshments.
