Guided tours of the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions are generally available for grades 9-12 in French, German or Spanish. The Whistlestop Tour of the permanent collection is the one regularly provided in those languages. Guided tours in other languages may be possible. Past tours have been provided in Chinese, Russian, Polish, Urdu, and Yoruba. All such tours depend on the availability of trained docents with the necessary language skills.
Whenever possible, the docent will select examples by artists of the appropriate nationality. Tours of temporary exhibitions are most often given in the language of the culture being displayed. Vocabulary lists of appropriate fine art terms can be sent to the instructor prior to the tour. Tours are free of charge to school groups; however, appointments must be made at least three weeks in advance.
To schedule a foreign language tour of the permanent collection or a temporary exhibition, or for more information about the school tour program, contact the curator of education.
