Chazen Museum of Art
Discussing museum studies with the museum director

Programs  UW Students and Faculty

Periodically, under the auspices of the Department of Art History, the Chazen's director with the assistance of other members of the museum staff offers a two-semester for-credit course, entitled Museum Studies. The first semester is an introduction to museum theory and practices; the second focuses on various issues of connoisseurship. The director and other members of the museum staff are available to visit classes and speak about various aspects of museum work or for private consultations by students. Contact the museum receptionist to set up an appointment. In addition, the Chazen maintains noncirculating lists of museum studies programs, internships, and other museum training opportunities around the country. These, together with lists of professional museum organizations and museum job openings are available to UW-Madison students from the curator of education.
