The Asian sculpture collection consists of approximately 107 pieces, the majority of which are from South or Southeast Asia. Broadly, they can be divided into three groups: 2nd to 4th-century Gandharan stone sculpture from India and Pakistan, a variety of Indian stone deities dating from the 8th through the 15th centuries, such as the Dancing Ganesha, and images of Buddha, mostly of wood or bronze with lacquer and gilt, from Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Burma dating from the 15th to the 19th centuries. Also included in the Chazen collection of Asian sculpture are several Chinese pieces, among which are a monumental sandstone head of Bodhisattva from the Northern Wei dynasty and a Tang limestone fragment of an arm holding a lotus blossom.
