Author Vidya Dehejia ISBN Year 2008 Pages 224 Illustrations 30 B&W, 230 color
Description During the Raj (British rule of India from 1858 to 1947), Indian silversmiths designed and crafted richly decorated silverware for British and European customers. The shapes and functions, such as tea services, bowls, goblets and beer mugs, catered to colonial tastes and demand. Yet the embellished surface designs reflect distinctive Indian skills, patterns, and figuration. Mapin Publishing, of Ahmedabad is issuing this extensive and beautiful catalogue with essays by each of the three exhibition curators, Vidya Dehejia, Dipti Khera, and Yuthika Sharma and by Wynyard Wilkinson, author of four books on silver.
