Chazen Museum of Art
Group Tour

Groups

Trained docents are available to guide organized groups through Chazen Museum of Art exhibitions. Generally, the Whistlestop tour of the permanent collections is offered to adult groups. Other approaches to the permanent collection can be discussed with the curator of education; however, they depend on the availability of the collections and appropriate docents. A group may also decide upon a tour of one of the ten to twelve temporary exhibitions that the Chazen Museum presents each year. (See the exhibition schedule for current offerings.)

Tours can be scheduled Tuesday through Friday between 9 am and 4 pm or Saturday and Sunday between 11 am and 4 pm. Most tours last one hour. Appointments for tours must be made at least three weeks in advance. Up to 60 people can be accommodated at one time, however, they will be subdivided into groups of no more than 12. Each group requires an individual docent. Guided tours are free of charge for nonprofit organizations; a donation to the museum's department of education of $25 per docent is suggested for others.

To schedule a tour, or for more information about the tour program, contact the curator of education. If any individual in the group has special needs, the group leader should indicate this at the time of the tour reservation.

Foreign language tours

The Whistlestop tour of the permanent collection and special tours of temporary exhibitions are available in French, German, or Spanish. Guided tours in other languages may be possible. (In the past, tours have been provided in Chinese, Russian, Polish, Urdu, and Yoruba.) Tours of temporary exhibitions are most often given in the language of the culture being displayed.

All foreign language tours depend on the availability of docents with the necessary language skills. In the Whistlestop tour of the permanent collection, the docent will select examples by artists of the appropriate nationality for discussion whenever possible.

Up to twenty-four people can be accommodated at one time, however, they will be subdivided into groups of no more than 12. Each group requires an individual docent.
