Blind or Low Vision
A guided descriptive Whistlestop Tour of permanent collection displays, recommended for teens and adults, is available to visitors who are blind or have low vision. On request, tactile educational materials focusing on artistic methods can be incorporated into a gallery tour. Touchable educational aids are available in the following areas:

  • Painting: Old Master and 20th- Century Techniques
  • Sculpture: Traditional and New Materials
  • Printmaking: Woodcut, Etching, Lithography, and Silkscreen

The educational materials are suitable for children as well as adults. In addition, the museum has designated ten objects in the permanent collection as touchable by visitors who are blind or have low vision. A specially trained docent or the curator of education leads these Art Touch Tours and participants are required to wear cotton gloves supplied by the museum. Art Touch Tours are available to individuals or groups of no more than three. Descriptive tours of temporary exhibitions can also be developed on request. Arrangements for all tours must be made at least three weeks in advance.

For more information, or to schedule a tour, contact the curator of education.
