The Chazen Communications Associate position is designed for a recent graduate or someone in the early years of a communications career.  The successful candidate will work as a full-time staff member at the Chazen Museum of Art for two years.

The Communications Associate will be a member of the professional communications section and as such will participate fully in all the section’s responsibilities and projects. The Associate will receive supervision, training, and coaching on all aspects of the job, in areas that include (but are not limited to) story choice, interviewing, editing, writing, digital and social media, analytics, production, project and event management, and photo editing.

The 2022–23 Associate will be primarily involved with re:mancipation, the public history project’s Sifting & Reckoning exhibition, and the Contemporary African Art Initiative exhibition/book.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The position is intended for a recent graduate or early career communicator.
The candidate will be an active participant in the re:mancipation project, providing communication and logistical support and outreach. This individual will provide vital support in organizing and planning symposia series for the project. As an emerging professional, the individual will receive close supervision and coaching on all aspects of the job, in areas that include (but are not limited to) project management, story choice, interviewing, editing, writing, digital and social media, analytics, production, and photo editing related to the re:mancipation project. Responsibilities may include:

  • Participate in communication initiatives related to the re:mancipation project.
  • Prepare related news and feature stories for use on all Chazen platforms.
  • Contribute project updates to our website and social media accounts.
  • Keep up-to-date on related current issues, events, and newsmakers.
  • Effectively engage diverse perspectives and experiences in work product and in organizational interactions and demonstrate respect in all workplace relationships and interactions.
  • Participate in organizing, and participating in, focus groups and symposia sessions.
  • Monitor reach and effectiveness of communication campaigns, projects, and initiatives
  • Plan editorial content according to established goals and objects
  • Writes, edits, and publishes content for various communication projects and marketing platforms to align with strategic initiatives and established communication campaigns
  • Provides project management and execution of communications programs, initiatives, and tactical plans

This position receives “Grad/Short-Term Academic Staff” benefits including health insurance.

Full time (40 hours/week) position.
Salary: $45,000 annual, minimum

DIGITAL ASSET COORDINATOR

As part of a grant-funded project, the Digital Asset Coordinator will prepare the Chazen Museum in terms of digital readiness which will involve selection, inventorying, and description of both analog and digital assets, as well as coordination with the Libraries to deliver assets for long term discovery and digital preservation.The individual will have the responsibility to help develop a workflow for digitizing Chazen Museum analog collections and delivering curated metadata and digital assets to the UW Madison Libraries Digital Collections Infrastructure for discovery and preservation.

This is a two-year, full-time position.
