Great Moth

Great Moth

Theodore Roszak

To achieve this sculptures’ rough texture, Theodore Roszak brazed (essentially melted) nickel-silver or steel onto the surfaces of steel armatures. This process transformed a moth and a flying fish, both creatures capable of flight, into menacing, primordial forms. Roszak was fascinated by metamorphosis and frequently incorporated insects in various stages of their life cycles into his work.
