Hours, Location, Parking

Please note: The third floor is closed for reinstallation of the permanent collection .

Museum staff have been working for the past few years to reimagine how the collection artwork is presented in the galleries, and will soon begin reinstalling about 1,500 paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, ceramics, glass, and other works of art in freshly painted and redesigned spaces—including galleries in the Elvehjem building, which has been closed for renovation.

  • The Chazen Café and Mead Witter lobby will remain open throughout the summer.
  • The Chazen building’s third-floor is closed for de-installation of the permanent collection.
  • The object study and the Chen Family Study Room on the Chazen building’s second floor remain open by appointment through the end of Spring Semester.

Located in the center of the UW campus, the Chazen is free and open to the public. Public parking lots are available nearby—The Frances Street Campus Garage is closest, the Chazen is on several Madison Metro bus routes, and BCycle stations are nearby. Accessible parking stalls are in front of the museum off University Avenue and other locations nearby. Contact us to learn more.
