Cornelis I Schut (attributed to)

This mythological scene includes the deities Ceres, goddess of agriculture and fertility, holding a cornucopia and a sickle, Vulcan at the forge at right, Mercury holding up his caduceus behind, a river god reclining in the foreground, and Jupiter with an eagle in the sky above. Schut spent three years in Italy where he decorated the villa of a Dutch merchant outside Rome with mythological scenes.
