Central scene of the “Bull’s Cruelty” or “Wonder of Zaandam,” an event said to have occurred in 1647 in which a farmer’s wife, tossed into the air by a bull, gives birth prematurely while the bull mortally wounds her husband. A boy flying the kite which had frightened the bull is on the right.
