The subject matter of this tea service is probably biblical, perhaps a version of the story of Jacob and Rebecca from Genesis 29:1-12, despite the inclusion of Cupid shooting an arrow from a nearby tree. The original lid of the teapoy, or tea caddy, has been replaced with a silver one.
