The central landscape with figures in the Oriental style is surmounted in the border by the arms of the Hudson or Hodgson family. The original owner of this service was possibly Captain Robert Hudson, who was at Guangzhou on the 'Loyal Blisse' in 1713 and again on the 'Macclesfield' in 1721, 1724, and 1731; Captain Charles Hudson, who was at Guangzhou on the 'Prince of Orange' in 1738; or Mr. J. Hodgson, who was supercargo on the 'Prince of Wales', at Guangzhou in 1736.
