Originally located against the West wall of Ptah-Hotep II''s tomb in Saqqara, Egypt and in situ as late as 1904 (when documented in Murray, "Saqqara Mastabas," see bibliography). Date and circumstances of removal unknown at present. Acquired from an art dealer, likely Mathias Komor (not yet confirmed), by Peter Sharrer (Ridgewood, New Jersey); 7 December 1973, sold by Peter Sharrer (Ridgewood, New Jersey) through Sotheby Parke-Bernet (New York, NY) auction "Egyptian, Western Asiatic, Islamic, Greek, Roman, Etruscan Antiquities: The Property of Various Owners including the Hagop Kevorkian Fund, New York" [sale 3581, lot 155] to the Elvehjem Art Center [now called Chazen Museum of Art].
