By 1925, created by the workshop of Wladimir de Grüneisen (Florence, Italy). 7 December 1976, sold at Sotheby Parke Bernet (London, England) auction "Egyptian, Middle Eastern, Greek, Etruscan and Roman Antiquities; Roman and Islamic Glass; African, Oceanic, American Indian and Pre-Colombian Art" [lot 329, as "A Fragment from a Greek Marble Grave Relief, ca. 4th century B.C.E."] to the Elvehjem Art Center [now called the Chazen Museum of Art]; August 1981, upon discovering that the relief was a forgery by Grüneisen, Sotheby’s reimbursed the purchase and donated the relief to the Elvehjem Museum of Art [now called the Chazen Museum of Art].
