Due to stylistic similarities, scholars have suggested this stele is from the Surya (Sun) Temple at Konarak, Odisha (formerly transliterated as “Orissa”). Likely by November 1960, acquired by Earl and Irene Morse (New York, NY); 1972, gifted by Earl and Irene Morse (New York, NY) to the Elvehjem Art Center [now called Chazen Museum of Art].
