Sold by a dealer (Bangkok, Thailand) to Alexander and Henrietta W. Hollaender (Oak Ridge, TN and Washington, DC)[1]; 1987, deposited on long-term loan to Elvehjem Museum of Art [now called Chazen Museum of Art]; 1992, bequeathed to Elvehjem Museum of Art [ now called Chazen Museum of Art]. [1] According to the curatorial sheet in the object file, the source of this work is, “from Bangkok dealer, off of Hindu Temple.” The file contains no other documentation of purchase, but there exist only two dated records of the collectors having purchased work in Asia (Japan in 1961, and India in 1967), which offer a possible date range for when they may have acquired this work.
The Chazen Museum of Art welcomes comments or inquiries about works in our collection. Please allow two–three weeks for a response. Chazen staff is not able to provide valuations or authentications and such inquiries cannot be answered.
