This painting depicts the Virgin Mary in mourning, as indicated by her hanging head, somber expression with furrowed brow, and downcast eyes. She wears a red garment under a black robe with purple lining that is draped over her head and arms. Her relaxed right hand is crossed over her left hand. A golden-yellow halo shines around her head. The black background closely resembles the color of the dark black robe worn by the Virgin Mary.
