Before 1785, in the collection of Count Otto Thott (1703-1785) (Gavnø Castle, Denmark); 24 April 1787, sold following his death at auction (Copenhagen, Denmark) [lot 283]. 19 April 1904, sold at Rudolph Lepke’s Kunst-Auctions-Haus (Berlin, Germany) auction "Gemälde in Oel und Tempera von Meistern des XV.-XVIII. Jahrhunderts" [sale 1379, lot 114]. Between November 1911 and August 1912, purchased in Germany by Paul S. Reinsch (Madison, WI); 1912, sold to Charles R. Crane (Chicago, IL); 1913, gifted to the University of Wisconsin-Madison; 1967, transferred to the Elvehjem Art Center [now called Chazen Museum of Art].
