Tsukioka Yoshitoshi

In this print Hōjō Tokimasa prays to a sea goddess for the prosperity and longevity of his lineage. Tokimasa was a member of the Hōjō clan that helped establish the Kamakura shogunate. He later became regent, and his descendants continued ruling as regents for over one hundred years. The elaborate print includes the use of mica in the water to create an iridescent visual effect.
