Bowl

Unknown

The religious rakan, or highest Buddhist disciples, depicted inside this bowl is counterbalanced on the outside by the playful karako, or Chinese children, a common motif in Satsuma ware. Karako are easily recognizable by their Chinese-style garments and their hairstyle of heads shaven except for one tuft of hair.
