Four-handled Vase

Four-handled Vase

Kinkozan workshop

The animals on this vase are shishi, Chinese lions that traditionally guard the entrance of Buddhist temples. Here, however, three shishi play with an embroidered ball representing the tama, a wish-granting Buddhist jewel.
