Honoré Daumier

In August of 1940 Louis Napoleon Bonaparte (nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte) and a small group of supporters attempted to start a revolution to overthrow King Louis Philippe. Louis Napoleon was arrested and sent to prison; he escaped (disguised as a stonemason) to England in 1846, and returned to France in 1848, having heard of the fall of Louis Philippe. He is elected President of France and at the end of his term orchestrates a coup to become Emperor of France, taking the name Napoleon III.
