  • Beyond Likeness: Mapping the Self: Chazen Museum of Art, 2/19/2016–4/3/2016

This large print shows two faces with dark skin tones in opposing quadrants of the paper. The faces are rendered in a grainy, pencil-like grayscale. Facial features are emphasized with strong contrast between highlights and shadows. The face in the top left is angular with sharp lines. The face in the bottom right is rounded with soft edges. The remaining two quadrants are filled with repeating golden-yellow circles lined up in precise columns and rows. Each circle contains a crouching black panther surrounded by the words “BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL.”
