ca. 1830, sold from the Estate of Jacques-Louis David (Paris, France), probably by Eugene David (Lugt 839) and Charles Louis Jules David (Lugt 1437), possibly to Edmond Fatio (Geneva, Switzerland) according to files. According to correspondence with William Glaser (New York, NY), it was originally part of an album titled "Roman Album #10" that was acquired by Jacques Seligmann (New York, NY) who broke up the album. According to Glaser, this drawing was originally connected in this album to a drawing in his collection. 1961, possibly sold by Julius Böhler (Munich, Germany) as, according to records, the drawing and inscription matches an illustration in the sales catalogue and an object stamp from an old dealer''s mat reference the Munich airport. 1972, Paul Drey Gallery (New York, NY) sells to the Elvhejem Art Center [now called the Chazen Museum of Art] (Madison, WI).
