W. T. Copeland & Sons (after F. M. Miller)

This Parian ware bust is a likeness of Alexandra of Denmark. It reproduces a marble sculpture that was made by artist F. M. Miller to commemorate Prince Albert Edward’s engagement in 1863 to Alexandra. It was issued as a pair alongside a likeness of the future groom (also in the Chazen collection) and was reissued for some years. A second version was made slightly late in which the Princess does not wear earrings. This example is marked with F. M. Miller’s name, an issue date of 1 February 1863, and the name of the artist union in London for which it was produced--the Crystal Palace Art Union.
