Charles Meryon

Charles Meryon was a French printmaker who specialized in etching. His work focused mainly on views of architecture and streets around France—especially precisely rendered depictions of old buildings in Paris. “Rue des Toiles, à Bourges” was intended to be part of a suite of prints depicting architecture in Bourges, France, however Meryon only completed three prints for the series.
