Raymond Louis Gloeckler

Raymond Louis Gloeckler was a printmaker who earned BS and MS degrees from UW–Madison, where he later taught from 1961 until his retirement in 1993. A specialist in the printmaking method of wood engraving, Gloeckler often used humor to engage in social critique. "Hornblower" is a color woodcut produced in the tradition of chiaroscuro printmaking. Each of the seven artist proofs made during the creation of "Hornblower" represent different states of the print, as well as separate impressions of the blocks (orange and rust) and the key block (the impression featuring only the black lines).
