Marjorie Kreilick

Pioneering mosaicist Marjorie Kreilick built this image of a Wisconsin lakeshore from hundreds of small colored squares of marble and glass and the occasional actual beach stone. She used this same ancient technique for a series of wall decorations depicting Wisconsin’s ecological regions, including the shore of Lake Michigan, installed at the Milwaukee State Office Building. Kreilick was a professor at UW–Madison between 1953 and 1991.
