Truman Lowe

Truman Lowe was a Ho-Chunk multimedia artist who emphasized knowledge of his cultural roots, environmental ethics, and natural materials and motifs in his artistic practice. This untitled artwork is part of a body of works in which Lowe tested the boundary between his sculptural and drawing practices by integrating objects he attached to the paper supports. In this work, Lowe glued an orange feather above a green and yellow semi-spherical shape which may be a basket, a type of made object the artist represented in multiple sculptures and drawings. Emphasizing formal qualities over realistic representation, the drawing reflects the artist’s experiments with shape, line, and color.
