Darcy Padilla

Caption, as provided by the artist: Robert Frazier talks with Dr. Teresa Black in the doorway of his room at the Ambassador hotel. "The AIDS Hotel," as it was called by residents, served as an informal hospice when the AIDS crisis emerged in San Francisco. From 1992-1997, Padilla followed the doctors, social workers, and nurses, who cared for the AIDS patients at the Ambassador hotel. When that was done, she would come back alone to interview and photograph the patients she had gotten to know.
