Samuel Halpert

Modern artist Samuel Halpert is known for still life subjects, landscapes, and urban cityscapes, typically of New York and Paris. This lithograph exemplifies Halpert’s particular interest in depicting still-life subjects arranged in front of urban windows, a tactic which juxtaposes intimate interiors with expansive cityscape views. Common to these scenes are incongruous perspectives and decorative patterns, demonstrated in this print by the upright vessels on a tilted table with a checkered tablecloth.
