Samuel Halpert

Modern artist Samuel Halpert is known for still life subjects, landscapes, and urban cityscapes, typically of New York and Paris. In “Samuel Halpert, a Conservative Modernist,” art historian Diane Tepfer states that “some of his most successful prints demonstrate a classicizing impulse.” “Nude–Head Down” integrates both Halpert’s academic training and modernist influences. Seen in a profile against a dark background, a nude woman lays with her torso resting on her bent right leg and her head on a pillow.
