Don LaViere Turner

Don LaViere Turner was a painter, printmaker, sculptor, and poet. He studied art at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, receiving his BS in 1951, followed by an MS in 1953. In 1971, he returned to Wisconsin, continued his painting and printmaking practices, and taught at UW–Madison. This etching ventures into the realm of fantasy. Mysteriously titled “Each or Every,” the nightmarish image seems to depict a reptile-like monster. Varied shapes and textures within the amorphous body evoke scaly skin, eyes, and teeth; yet the beast remains undefined, perhaps provoking the viewer’s own imagination.
