Henry Varnum Poor

Henry Varnum Poor studied at Stanford, the Slade School in London, and the Académie Julian in Paris. After serving in the army during World War I, Poor moved to Rockland County, New York and designed and built his home and studio, which he called Crow House, now on the National Register of Historic Places and known for its handcrafted elements. Poor had a successful career as an artist teaching, painting, designing homes, completing murals, and producing pottery, which he originally began as a way to increase his income. In 1946, Poor co-founded the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
