Jordan Davies

Jordan Davies received his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago alongside the group now referred to as the Chicago Imagists and was an active member of the city’s art scene. His early works were abstract, experimenting with color and form to shift perspective. While not a member of the Imagists, he incorporated certain stylistic elements into his paintings, such as their use of bold colors and graphic linework. Two of Davies’s paintings were included in the exhibition “What They’re Up To in Chicago” (1972-1973) at the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa as representative of the thriving Chicago scene. A work similar in style to the untitled painting being proposed for acquisition is in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago; both are characteristic of his style in the late 1960s.
