Pierre Tal-Coat

Pierre Tal-Coat was a prominent French postwar artist. His work of the early 1940s was influenced by Cezanne, Matisse, and Picasso. After World War II, he relocated from Provence to Paris. There, he became interested in attempting to depict the movement of objects. He often visited the aquarium located in the Jardins du Trocadéro. The painting proposed for acquisition is one of a number that likely resulted from these visits. While other examples are more abstract, in this painting the fish are recognizable, with arching curves suggesting their circular movement.
