This sculpture was likely acquired in Italy in 1795 by J.B.S. Morritt (1771-1843) of Rokeby Hall, Yorkshire, England. The sculpture remained in Rokeby’s collection until June 10, 1969, when it was sold at Sotheby’s London auction to Michael Hall Fine Arts of New York. In 1970, Mr. and Mrs. Newman T. Halvorson purchased the sculpture from Michael Hall Fine Arts and gifted it to the Elvehjem Art Center (now the Chazen Museum of Art) in the same year.
