Emily Brock

Emily Brock is a contemporary glass artist best known for her intricate miniature environments. In her own words, Brock is “inspired by our current culture; the places we visit or inhabit on a day-to-day basis. They are all of interest—the diners, the libraries, our homes, offices and even espresso cafes.” To create her scenes, she uses a variety of techniques—casting, slumping, flameworking—all of which enable her to work without assistance. “The Juice Bar” is an ideal setting; one might anticipate the scent of citrus in the air. The diner counter is pristine, fruits are abundant, but something is off. No one is present. Emily Brock explains, “In the architectural scenes there usually is an object out of place or the feeling of a task left unfinished…I like the mystery of the unfinished narrative. I am interested in the inclusion of the viewer in the story.”
