Ulla Forsell

“Plate with Flowers” is a large plate adorned with yellow, orange, and red poppies layered over printed enamels. Though the artwork’s colors and imagery are lush, Ulla Forsell subverts this idealism with key details: the flower’s leaves are made from shards and the poppies seem splattered across the form. Forsell explains, “My work is richly decorated, bordering on Baroque...nature is constantly present, but its beauty is threatened.”
