Act V, Yoicbibei attacked by the robber. Meanwhile, Kampei, out hunting, runs into another of Hangan's old retainers as shown in the background to the left of this print. Kampei learns from him that Yuranosuke, Hangan's chief councillor, is raising an army of ronin to avenge Hangan's death. One can only join through subscription, however, and Kampei still has no money. Kampei proceeds on his way, and shoots what he thinks is a boar, but which is in reality the same robber who had just murdered his father-in-law. Kampei finds the wallet containing the money which had been paid for Okaru on the robber, and is so desperate to join the ronin and atone for his mistake, that he takes it and sends it to Yuranosuke.
