Gihei atop the chest of armor. Yuranosuke tests the loyalty of Gihei, the man keeping the armor of the ronin, by having a party of them approach the keeper disguised as government officials. Gihei does not betray the ronin even when his son is threatened. In a subtle move of thanks, Yuranosuke has his men cut off the hair of Gihei's wife, Osono. Gihei had temporarily divorced her, so that if he was found out, she would not become involved, but her parent had quickly offered her in marriage to another man. Cutting off her hair disfigures her enough so that she will not be a potential bride, and by the time her hair grows back the crisis will have passed.
