Jimmy Ernst

"Jimmy Ernst has been using optical, perspectival and illusionnistic devices for his linear abstractions since the '40's, although his lyrical worl is more analogous to Matta and other surreal abstractionists." ARB, p. 21, Inaug. Exhib. cat., EAC, 1970. ""Memory Fragment" appears like an aerial view covered with long blades of grass instead of clouds. He varies his textures by using small strokes of paint and contrasts these with long curvilinear shapes." A. Shoen, no. 19, Gosman Coll. cat., U. of Pitts., 1969.
