According to a typed declaration written in 1962 and signed by Gaspero del Corso, Manager of l’Obelisco Galleria d’Arte, this unique cast was produced by the artist “during the year 1959/61.” By 1962, this artwork in the possession of the l’Obelisco Galleria d’Arte, Rome, Italy, where it was exhibited in the exhibition “Azuma Kengiro” that opened on January 10, 1962. On June 18, 1962, the “unique cast,” titled S-68 (as identified on an invoice from the gallery) was sold by l’Obelisco Galleria d’Arte to Dr. Alexander Hollaender (and Henrietta Hollaender) of Oak Ridge, Tennessee for US$280. In 1987, after Alexander Hollaender’s death, his widow Henrietta Hollaender placed the sculpture on long-term loan to Elvehjem Museum of Art (now called Chazen Museum of Art) and in 1992, it was bequeathed to the Elvehjem Museum of Art (now called Chazen Museum of Art).
