Ca. 1968-1974, probably purchased from a dealer (Southeast Asia*) by Mr. and Mrs. Ira Baldwin (Madison, WI); December 1990, gifted to the Elvehjem Museum of Art [now called Chazen Museum of Art]. *The General File for the Baldwin Collection contains a document written by Mrs. Baldwin explaining how they acquired parts of their collection. The document states that their Asian art was chiefly purchased “during the late 1960’s and early 1970’s” while Mr. Baldwin was stationed in Indonesia. She explains that they collected in countries neighboring Indonesia, “such as Taiwan, Thailand, and The Philippines,” from small pawn dealers.
