September 1982, gifted by Mr. and Mrs. Michael Gross (Washington D.C.) to the Elvehjem Museum of Art [now called Chazen Museum of Art]
This abstract painting features vertical, striated bands of color that create a sense of texture and light. The dominant palette is warm, moving from rich pinks and olive greens on the left to vibrant peach, orange, and yellow-gold on the right. The colors appear to have bled or stained the surface, giving the impression of sheer, wrinkled fabric or sun-drenched, decaying wood. Thin, vertical lines separate the broader color areas, enhancing the layered, almost curtain-like effect. Splashes and speckles of bright, almost fluorescent hot pink punctuate the warm tones, adding a surprising, electric contrast, particularly in the lower left and scattered throughout the center bands.
