Walter Griffin

The American Walter Griffin lived in France during the 1890s when Scene at Fleury, France was painted. Griffin's love of nature and art grew from his boyhood in Portland, Maine. He re-ceived his formal training at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the National Academy of Design, New York, and with several artists in Paris. Walter Griffin used a technique similar to pointillism, but his method of color vibration was obtained quite differently from the French impressionists. His paintings depend on breadth and generalization and the envelopment of rich color.
