Cornelis Pietersz Bega

Cornelis Pietersz. Bega, a Dutch painter and etcher in Haarlem, is known for his paintings and prints of peasant life with somewhat caricatured figures. His pictures of life in peasant kitchens and taverns such as Party of Drinkers capture psychological undercurrents of the group. The Dutch often used such paintings of peasants to make a moral point, here warning against the perils of excessive drinking.
